THE WIN WIN JURIES

Our two international awards, the WIN WIN Award and the WIN WIN Youth Award, each have their own independent jury comprised of members from diverse backgrounds within academia, private industry, public sector, and civil society. These juries are responsible for annually selecting award finalists and winners. The nomination process is open to the public, allowing participation by submitting nominations of relevant candidates. The WIN WIN Award jury also annually selects a theme that is pertinent to current global challenges and the achievement of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These awards recognize initiatives across all aspects of sustainability - social, economic, and environmental.

THE HISTORY

The WIN WIN Gothenburg Sustainability Award was established in the year 2000

by Göran Johansson, then mayor of Gothenburg, and Carl Bennet, a leading businessman in the Gothenburg region.

After unsuccessfully suggesting to the Nobel Prize Committee that it should establish a Nobel Prize for environmental contributions, Johansson and Bennet decided to introduce a completely new award, initially called the Gothenburg International Environment Award.

The list of winners of the 1 million SEK award includes names such as Gro Harlem Brundtland, Al Gore, Kofi Annan, Park Won Soon, Margot Wallström, Alejandro Aravena and Kalundborg Symbiosis.

The WIN WIN Youth Award was established in 2018 as a regional award, and in 2020 upscaled to an international award. It aims to empower and reward young people who play an active role in the creation of a more sustainable future.

Every year, the jury chooses a theme for the award and then asks for nominations based on the selected theme. The winner is usually announced each spring and the award ceremony is arranged in October of the same year.
